January 12th Kingdom of the Desert Winds

News Report by Amtgard Press Reporter Elsa von Liechtenstein

[AP News] The Desert Winds was once a peaceful land, the populace had joined forces time and time again to keep attackers at bay and to work together hand in hand to earn the rank of Kingdom.

 

But now the excitement has worn off and the populaces of the Desert Winds have turned on each other. Similar to that of a bar room brawl, everyone has joined in – happily attacking their neighbors and breaking age old treaties.

 

It is rumored that the new King Rico is behind the sudden greed of his subjects. Reportedly King Rico placed lands up for sale in a “silent action”, selling lands that rightfully belonged to his Duchys, Baronys and Shires. I have an inside source that claims King Rico even gave away lands. In an interview, concerned parties stated that they are “certain the funds are for padding the Kingdom coffers.”

 

The true terror of the matter is that King Rico opened the “silent action” land sales up to Kingdom outsiders. As I am reporting this, the land owner named Legion is marching on The River’s End Crown lands. No one seems to know who this ‘Legion’ is and if they do they are too fearful to report it the media.

 

This just in: A source just reported that not only are the land owners attacking lands but there are now reports coming in that Orcs, gremlins and other beasts are surfacing within the Desert Winds.

 

Just in the past week five lands were attacked. Each of the land owners seems to be trying to increase their lands but to what end we are uncertain. Monarchy members have refused to comment on the situation. We are unsure if it is due to fear or that they too are part of the conspiracy.

On the 20th day of the month of snow, the Quest to Trogdor’s Cave shall continue…

[Deep godly sounding voice]

 

Hear ye Hear ye populous of the Desert Rose!

This is your Champion speaking!

 

On the marrow, we shall advance our trek to Trogdor’s cave. Together we have endured blistering heat, scorching sands, and poo flinging monkeys. Now we shall drudge our way through the snowy wasteland Elcipa. As we make our way through Elcipa, we are sure to encounter many a beast. Though we may have luck on our side and they will be hibernating. Pray to the gods that we have safe passage and lose no more fellow companions on this part of the journey.

 

It is rumored that there is a magical mirror somewhere in this snowy realm. If the story be true:

 

The way is closed,

No man may pass,

All yield to the truth,

That is amass.

 

Elcipa, the last known resting place,

Must not be disturbed,

By the hand of man,

Nor beast.

 

Only one may pass,

If this riddle,

It can unravel,

In a timely manner.

Note the above is a message posted to my Amtgard park’s Yahoo Group page announcing the Quest that we will be undertaking. I am currently the Champion of our park, because my husband Lyle aka “Rico” stepped up into the office of King when no one else was able to do so. He was our parks champion so as the next qualified person, I took over his job. The job of Champion consists of running the “club meetings” every saturday. I plan the games and activities for the day. Tomarrow we will be swinging cold, foam swords at each other, and pretending to be a part of the fantasy world I protrayed above.
